Common check patterns

Gingham
Gingham is defined by evenly sized squares formed by three tones: white, a contrast colour, and a blended overlap of the two. Traditionally seen in blue and white, gingham remains a structured and balanced check, suitable for business casual shirts and relaxed check dress shirts.

Windowpane
Windowpane checks feature larger, widely spaced squares. Commonly used on Oxford shirts and cotton dress shirts, this pattern offers a clean, open appearance and works well for smart casual occasions.

Graph check
Graph checks are created from thin intersecting lines that form small, precise squares. The pattern is subtle and ordered, making it a reliable choice for business dress shirts where a restrained check is preferred.

Houndstooth
Houndstooth consists of angular, repeating shapes that form a distinctive check pattern. Most commonly produced in black and white, it is also available in a wider colour range, offering a structured yet visually detailed option.

Tattersall
Tattersall checks are formed using fine, evenly spaced stripes in alternating colours, repeated both horizontally and vertically. The stripes are typically darker than the base fabric, creating a classic check shirt pattern with a clean finish.

Mini check
Mini checks are made up of very small, uniform squares, often combining white with a single colour. This check pattern sits between formal and casual, offering more structure than larger checks while remaining less formal than solid shirts.

Tartan
